![]() Meta testing end-to-end encryption for Quest VR messenger.Let’s discuss the possibilities for its operation in the comments. To begin with, the launch of Quest Pro may be one of the year’s major developments. If Zuckerberg is successful in attracting businesses into his metaverse, only time will tell. For pure VR applications (which are all compatible with the new gadget), you must purchase an extra $50 app. The Meta is also working on AI models that forecast the position of the full body based on data from the headset, implying that avatars will soon have legs.īecause of the emphasis on mixed reality, it had to trade immersion – the headgear does not entirely block out the surrounding world, as the Quest 2 does. They record eye movements and facial expressions to send to virtual avatars. In addition, Quest Pro gets a set of cameras focused on the user’s face. An object identification system sends it, along with the user’s hands, to VR. The third option, mixed reality, is also intriguing: you can text on your real keyboard on the table without taking off your glasses. Thanks to exterior cameras, the new headset has learned to monitor hand movements and switch between AR and VR in real time. The corporate metaverse’s software and hardware are ready. I would definitely buy a device for $1,500 that would boost the productivity of my engineers by even 3% According to Zuckerberg Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.Published: 12 October 2022, 4:17 am Updated:, 4:18 am Subscribe to my free weekly content round-up newsletter, God Rolls. This is not going to go well for him or Meta if he continues down this path.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. This is just embarrassing, and yet Zuckerberg seems entirely immune to the embarrassment, or really just does not understand how bad this looks, both literally, the graphics are garbage and it’s bizarre no one has legs after five years of this, but also for him and his company and his grand vision of the metaverse, which he seems to understand less than all of his competition. Even within the VR space, Meta’s $10 billion investment seems like it’s producing worse results than something like VR Chat, or the booming V-Tuber space on Twitch and YouTube. Zuckberg has essentially banked everything on both VR, and the idea that people want to do extremely boring things in VR like attend business meetings or play ping pong. The “real” metaverses, or the closest thing to them, are existing, large-scale games that have existed for years, and you can make the case that places like Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite or even GT GTA Online are far closer to a traditional vision of the metaverse than anything Zuckerberg or blockchain nuts have come up with. The concept of the “metaverse” as a whole has become entirely twisted by both Zuckerberg and a literal army of web3 grifters trying to sell blockchain real estate and NFTs in empty worlds. If you’re a Meta investor, and you have the head of the company saying that the metaverse is the future, Meta has a huge role to play in it, and then they keep posting things that look worse than PlayStation Home in 2008, I don’t know how you would have any confidence in that vision, or in that person.
